Soda Firing 5-14-26

This will be our 31st Kiln Firing. It’s a beautiful clam sunny day. Last night we had quite a few gusts around 7-8pm. There is more sculpture in this kiln than normal since Alison’s class participated.

Kiln Log:

I will log at the top of the hour here what temperature, gas, damper, and notes pertaining to the firing.

  • 6:00pm - 65ºF, KILN START TIME - South pilots/ burner lit and candled overnight at 1/2 pound. Damper at 1”

  • 7:00am (the next day) - Top Temp 1312ºF/ Bottom temp 1005ºF.
    I lit the north burner and pilot. Damper at 2”. Hopefully everything will keep on track during my online meeting at 8am.

  • 8:00am - Top Temp 1410ºF/ Bottom temp 1204ºF. Damper at 3”. Air Low.

  • 9:00am - Top Temp 1630ºF/ Bottom temp 1440ºF. Damper at 3”. Gas 1.5 south/0.5 north, Air Low.
