Soda Firing 10-15-25

This will be our 25th Kiln Firing. Follow along with the firing as I update this page on the hour.

Kiln Log:

I will log at the top of the hour here what temperature, gas, damper, and notes pertaining to the firing.

  • 4:30pm - 61ºF, KILN START TIME - South pilots/ burner lit.

  • 10:00pm - 797ºF, South burner, damper left at 2” open, air on low. All peeps

  • 7:00am - 1158ºF, South burner bumped up to #1, damper left at 2” open, air on low.
    Second, north burner lit at a candling level.

  • 8:00am - 1354ºF, North burner bumped up to 1#, Damper left at 2” air low

  • 9:00am - 1468ºF, Both burners at 1.5#, Damper 2.5”, air low-medium
    012 starting to bend on top/ much darker on the bottom

  • 10:00am - 1522ºF, Both burners at 2#, Damper 3”, air medium
    012 down top

  • 11:00am - 1651ºF, Both burners at 2#, Damper 3”, air medium
    012 starting to bend on bottom/ 010 bending on top

  • 12:00pm - 1702ºF, body reduction time

    Both burners at 2.5#, Damper 2.5”, air medium
    012 down top and bottom

  • 1:00pm - 1789ºF, Both burners at 2.5#, Damper 3”, air high
    04 bending top. Out of body reduction and cruising : )

  • 3:00pm - 1964ºF, Both burners at 3#, Damper 3”, air high

  • 4:00pm - 2027ºF, Both burners at 3#, Damper 3”, air high

    cone 1 is down top, soft bottom

  • 5:00pm - 2075, Both burners at 3#, Damper 3”, air high

  • 6:00pm - 2124ºF, Both burners at 3#, Damper 3.5”, air high
