AKIO from Rat City Studios is a heavily grogged/ very coarse stoneware that is excellent for building sculptures. When you do, Kiln loading/ firing fees are included in the cost of the clay. This includes a single bisque and a single glaze fire for each piece you fire.

Clay is for current RCS Members and for studio pick-up only.

For refunds on reclaim or new bags of clay, you may request a refund (less a $7 processing fee) for completely unused bags of clay only. Please see staff.

Clay Art Center’s AKIO is a great clay body for Architectural Ceramics use. It fires to a light tan color and flashes brown to orange in the soda kiln. Peter King, author of the book “ARCHITECTURAL CERAMICS for the Studio Potter” says, “It is both very plastic and very tough.” It also looks great in the soda kiln! Shrinkage: 8%
