How many pots to bring?

Space in the kiln is sold in 1/2 cubic foot (cu. ft.) increments.

1/2 cu. ft. boxes placed in kiln to demonstrate the space they take in the kiln.

EACH PERSON SCHEDULES A CHECK-IN TO MEASURE POTS.
This is a requirement for participation.

Bring a few extras. Plan for not all the pots you bring to get into the kiln.
Each share is $55 and is 1/2 cu. ft. + 2 hours of glazing time at RCS.

Some people want to bring big pots and some tiny ones.
Calculating the space each person is allotted is important.

ONE SHARE is 12” x 12” x 6”. This is the size of a clay box.
To size your share, stack your pots rim to rim, or foot to foot inside the box. (they cannot be nested inside each other). Remember the spacing needs to have a little wiggle room to account for wadding and the air-space around the pots in the stacked kiln.

We count on you to bring what you have registered for. This calculation method is our endeavor to make it possible for people to participate with fewer pots, and have people who want more pots in the kiln to contribute accordingly.

*No refund is provided if you do not bring enough pieces to fill the space you purchased.

Layer One: Calculating pots in 1/2 Cubic Foot (12” x 12” x 6”)

Layer Two: Calculating pots in 1/2 Cubic Foot (12” x 12” x 6”)

1/2 cubic foot (6” x 12” x 12”) = This is the size of one fully enclosed Clay Art Center Clay Box
1 cubic foot (12” x 12” x 12”) = This is the size of one CAC Box with the flaps open
1 1/2 cubic feet ( 12” x 12” x 18”) = this is the size of three enclosed CAC boxes stacked.

Ways to Measure:

  • Stack your pots within a 12” wide x 12” deep x 6” tall box to determine how many to bring

  • Place tape in a 12” square on your table and stack them up 6” tall in space.

  • Stack them rim to rim, foot to foot.
They may not nest inside eachother, unless they will be placed in the kiln that way.
This will better estimate space similar to the way we stack the kiln.

  • Your calculation will be checked when you come to glaze : )
