Join us for a 9-week Wednesday Evening clay class at Rat City Studios.

All Levels Welcome

All the demonstrations in this session will focus on using bisque molds with slabs… These are exploratory demos and will build your hand building skills! You are welcome to use the wheel during practice hours, or even in class, but the focus of the class will be hand building. You will learn how to make a bisque mold to make a medium sized plate, small serving dish and other forms. Learn to take your favorite influence or inspiration into your work. Develop your cone 6 surfaces!

Your class fee of $375 includes one bag of clay.
Each additional 25# of clay is $25. (No out of house clay please)
All purchases of classes are non-refundable.
Your registration through the website is what holds your place in the class.

Materials:
Studio Clay is JG Cone 6 Porcelain, from Clay Art in Tacoma:
This is a cone six porcelain. Since it is a small studio we are going to stick to using a single clay body for classes.  You may buy clay from me for $25 a bag. (The first bag is included in your class fee). This fee includes glaze material and firing costs. A required tools list will be sent to you along with a studio guide near the start of your session.

Description:
This class will offer a wheel throwing, hand building, and surface design demos in most class sessions. Class lessons will often have a theme.  For instance: Cups or Bottles. At other time it will be more study-hall style where help is given on individual projects and questions. The class calendar is subject to change, but we do our best to stick to it.

Studio Access. The studio is open from 9am-9:30pm for practice everyday. You are encouraged to practice during these hours. Please be completely cleaned up by 9:30.
Please arrive and leave within these designated open studio hours only. 
Please sign in and out at the door attendance sheet during working hours (except class).
This includes dropping by to pick things up or check on work.

Classes: Demonstrations for class benefit will start promptly at 7:15pm.

Questions during open studio hours? Please endeavor to solve problems on your own and be prepared to work independently during open studio hours. There will often be people around the studio. Please try to ask your questions during class times.

Kiln Firings: We will do our best to fire your work promptly.  This means we fit your work into the kilns as soon as there is enough work to mostly fill a kiln up a class.  If you are making unusually shaped objects it might take longer.  Please limit the size of your work to 16” in any direction. Label your work with your name or chop. Students may not sign up for individual kilns.  Students may not unload or load kilns without the knowledge and direction of the instructor. This class is not meant to accommodate production work. It is meant as a learning facility.

Glazes: Some glazes are provided at the studio. If you want to use something not available at the studio, please check with the instructor before you use it. You are welcome to bring outside glazes with approval before use.

Parking. Please park perpendicular to the chain link fence along 106th Street. Rat City Studios is not responsible for the well being of your car or your belongings.  Leave valuables in the trunk or completely out of sight.  Park within the white stripe on the road as other drivers really speed down the hill at times. RCS is not responsible for items left in your car or damages to your car.Do not block the mailboxes. Park up above the mailboxes please.

Last Class. The last session is for our potluck, reviewing finished work, & cleaning the studio.  You are encouraged to fill out the online survey to help improve the studio and offerings at RCS.  Please be prepared to take your belongings home between sessions.  No storage of unfinished work is provided between sessions.
