This will be a gathering of people to work towards growing professionally in the business of being an artist.  This is a huge topic and each evening will present a closer look at a smaller goal with in the whole.

If you live to far away to come in person, I will be live streaming these.  Simply purchase your entry fee, and you will be emailed with further directions for logging into the conversation via your computer.  You must have high-speed internet to live stream.

June 26th- Getting your work into the world.
I am going to discuss - in overview fashion - all the ways I place images, actual work, written information about my work, and cross pollination ideas that involve my work into the larger community.  This will lead to a discussion that goes into more depth in areas participants are most curious about.  This overview will include, juried shows, galleries, social media, alternative venues, craft fairs, online sales, and more!

July 25th

Setting Goals! What IS the next step in your artist career? With so many potentials in front of you, how do you know what the next small step is?  Set those goals on fluffy white far away clouds, but also define the small steps needed to reach them. As a group we are going to complete an exercise in seeing where our efforts have taken us, where we are now, and what steps will aid our progress.  Come ready to analyze, write, and discuss.

August 29th

Feedback loop. Bring one piece you want to share with the group. We will do an exercise to bring out peoples ideas about what they see in your work.  You will get to describe what your goals were with in its creation and presence in the world.  This will lead to a discussion about how theseperspectives either match up, find differences, or find things to search after.  This is meant to be a supportive environment with the intension of sharing what we see and how we can grow our work and ideas.

September26th

Giving an artist presentation. Bring flash drive with 7 images/ sides. Prepare this in powerpoint. you will have seven minutes to share your ideas, process, influences and explain your work all while the slides progress. This is meant to be low pressure.  It will be timed.  We will enjoy each others work and then talk about what we say and ask questions!

October 24th

Which way?  How will you grow as an artist…? Do you think of going to grad school?  What about apprenticeships?  How can you learn on your own.  in workshops, community centers, online…  The options are plentiful!  Let’s talk about them and how to apply. 


November 28th

Portfolio Artist Statement/ Bio
Discuss the role of the artist statement in different uses- your website, within applications, or for a specific exhibition. Hear examples of different artist statements in the field.  Ask questions.  Bring three printed copies of your artist statement and bio.  Max number of words 500 statement/ 200 bio.  Exchange these within the group and get edits to take home and keep trucking along.
